Ranking System of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC)

Currently, the Islamic Conference organization encompassing 57 Islamic countries has aimed to improve the status of universities in the Islamic world by designing a special evaluation and ranking system known as the ranking system of Islamic world universities. Muslims account for around one-fifth of the world's population (1.3-1.4 billion people). Among the Islamic countries, the highest number of articles is related to Turkey, Iran, and Egypt, respectively. At the 2005 Islamic Conference in Mecca, a fact was shared concerning the presence of an insufficient number of Islamic world universities on the list of the 500 top universities in the world. Therefore, it was proposed that a special ranking system be designed and established by Islamic countries themselves to rank the Islamic world universities. At the same meeting, it was stipulated that the top 20 Islamic universities in the Islamic world should be funded by the Islamic Conference Bank, so that their ranking improvement could occur in other global ranking systems. It is notable that the methods and indicators of this ranking system were compiled and finalized on the 2006 and 2007 summits.
